Tell Me About You

Jacob the Cat
Aside from the narcissistic satisfaction of seeing my own words on the screen, one of the greatest pleasures of blogging is getting to know many of you through your comments and blogs. I'm guessing, though, that there may be a few of you out there from whom I've never heard. I'd love to meet all of you, so I'm asking you to tell me about yourself.

Following Shai's example (again!),

You see, I’m curious. I want to know if the people who find this blog are mostly males or females.... Are you in your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s? (I know a few readers are teens, so don't be afraid to speak up too!) What do you do with your life? Are you a blogger too? How did you find this blog? How often do you come to visit? What topics interest you the most?

If you humour me and tell me all about you, I promise to do these things:

1) I’ll visit your blog. If you have one, that is. And, if you leave the link when you comment here.

2) I’ll leave a comment or two in your blog. Maybe more, if you convert me as a regular reader.

3) I’ll tell you at least ONE thing that I like about you/your blog. I might even write all about you!

If you don't have a LiveJournal account, please feel free to click the "anonymous" option and leave the link of your blog along with your comment.

Even if you routinely leave comments here and we "talk" often, you can always tell me something about yourself that you'd like me to know - maybe something surprising, something you're proud of, or something you think is cool about you.

Looking forward to hearing from all of you!

  • 1) Female in late 20s
    2) I try to live it as positively as I can
    3) Yes
    4) I invited you to start it! :)
    5) Every day
    6) Your life in Vietnam, and your opinions on health
    • Thanks, Jean. I think I've paid homage to you many times but it's not hard to think up something else I like you and your blog - you are honest about your strengths and weaknesses.
  • hello, i'm candice.

    :: female, 23yrs old.

:: i spend time with my fiance, family and friends very often. guess this is because i have more time being jobless. but i'm looking for a job now that i've completed my studies.

:: i saw it a couple of times from friends' friends' pages, like from [info]squarenails'.

:: when i'm hopping from blog to blog, reading about people who're not in my network.

:: the different lifestyle you're leading in another country, your kid, thoughts...
    • Hi, Candice! Thanks for saying "hi"! Your LJ has so many special features that mine does not. I'm a total dunce for figuring out how to customize my template besides what's right in front of my nose.
  • (Anonymous)
You know my blog already, I'm in my late 20s and I've found your blog to be very interesting - ur life as an expat and stephen until recently when most of ur blogs serves only as links to ur other blogs, the genetic studies and kids' toys.

Something about me? I'm nonchanlant most times so it's difficult to really annoy me big time and I find it hard to really dislike someone. If I do get annoyed, I usually get over it very fast!
  • I am 45, female, have a daughter that is 8, a Korean husband, and live in Minnesota.
    • Thanks for answering! :) I was so pleased to meet you so many months back. Thank you for sharing your art with all of us and being a source of inspiration.
  • I don't know if you looked at my last post, which was pretty much answering these questions, but being in photos and you said photobucket wasn't working for you...
I'm 45, female, found you at <lj user="public health">, nurse full time but have lots of other interests, visit you daily when I'm not overwhelmed by other pressures, and I am fascinated by the details of your daily life, and the genetics stuff.
I live in France. I wish I could tell you something new and cool about me but I think you know me already! I'm just doing this for the statistics.
    • Thanks giving me your stats! ;) I've always thought you were a kind and loving person and have a lot of respect for you because you're in one of the most demanding professions I can imagine. (((hugs)))
  • You see, I’m curious.

Female (otherwise I'd be a biological freak, having given birth to 3 boys)
30s (definitely insane for having 2 of those boys after the age of 25)

I'm a fulltime Mom, so what I do with my life is all the 1001 Things that fulltime Moms do- although some of them I do as infrequently as my nerves allow (like vaccuuming or dusting, those I put off until I can see Yuck that needs removed).
I, along with my husband, am the volunteer geek behind the anonymous "webmaster" title for one of the Masonic groups he belongs to.

I'm a half-hearted writer, and one of these days I'll find the necessary focus to actually go beyond creating story outlines and actually write the book.

I am not a blogger, yet. I do keep an online journal, and some of it is bloggish in nature, but mostly it's for me. I see Blogging as writing for an audience, and journaling as writing for the self. If I were to write a blog however, I would probably do one on spirituality of various sorts, or one on living in harmony with the environment/planet.

A friend cross-stitches, and listed you as a friend, and I was bored and journal-hopping one day, and you seemed like someone I might have a bit in common with- being a mom of a toddler and enjoying crafts. :) Your in my friend's list, so how often I come to your blog is based on how often I read my friend list, which is at least once per day and if I'm spending hours at the computer on a given day, probably 5-20 times a day. heh.

topics that interest me... just about anything. I may have nothing that comes to mind to respond with, but I do read everything.
    • If you were a man who'd given birth to three boys, you'd be a biological inspiration! ;)

I have really appreciated your comments, esp. at the Gen/PH and kids blogs because we need a boost in readership. The comments are always so insightful and intelligent. Thank you!

    2. What do you do with your life? -- I'm a mama of a 10 month old. I work as a secretary. And I'm supposed to be going back to school in late August, but there are some bugs still to work out. I also spend much of my time being neurotic.

      proliferating ass

How right you are!!! Hours of sitting in front of the computer can do that to you? heheee

It has really amazed me how quickly we clicked, Krissy. We couldn't be more different, yet more similar. Most of all, you ALWAYS crack me up.

  • Blog Poll

You are such a fabulous blog-tress! Such a great idea to convert Lurkers to Commenters.
    • Re: Blog Poll

Duuuude. It would be so much cooler to be called a blogmeister a la Rob Schneider's copymeister. ;P

And you, sir, are a tremendous father and husband with an ability to make everyone, including those of us online, feel good. Thank you!
  • I want to know if the people who find this blog are mostly males or females.... Are you in your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s?

I'm a female in my EARLY 30's. :-) (But I think you already knew that.)

What do you do with your life?

I'm a mom of a two-year-old, with another baby on the way; I'm writing my Ph.D. dissertation in linguistics; I'm married to the love of my life.

    Are you a blogger too?

I have an LJ, but it's just a personal blog. Nothing fancy, intriguing or particularly enlightening.

How did you find this blog?

I don't remember! I don't remember how I became LJ friends with most of my LJ friends. Pitiful, huh?

How often do you come to visit? What topics interest you the most?

I read whenever you show up on my Friends page. :-) Sometimes when I'm busy, I skip over your genetics blog, and I don't read the toy blog that often, although I should. I enjoy reading about your experiences as an American in Vietnam, and about Stephen's antics.
    • Thanks answering! It's ok if you don't remember how we met, I'm just happy we did. :)

I always enjoy reading your entries because you're a "fuzzie" compared to my "techie" so you often look at things from a different angle than me. You broaden my world view and that's what I aim to do every day. Thank you!
  • I'm a 30 something SAHM, though I am happy to report that my life is not nearly as dramatic as the tv show! I have an lj, and my goofy advice column at askgoodjoan.com when it's not mothballed due to injury! We found each other via mutual friends, and I see you on my friends list whenever you post!
    • Thanks, Joan! I think your life is pretty interesting as it is! Perhaps you could make millions on television. haha

You are one of the sagest people I know esp. when it comes to parenting. I first learned about you through [info]abigailvr and liked the pratical answers on askgoodjoan.com. Thanks for sharing your experiences and helping the rest of us along the way!

    2. Trying to be a better person, discover more about life and people around me :) I work as a counsellor.
    3. I've just started writing on LJ few months ago.
    4. From friends'page where you left your comments; i think it was [info]olimomok. I added you because i like what you wrote and you added me back without me asking :) How nice.
    5. As often as i check my friends' page.
    6. I prefer your personal sharings about life, motherhood, your reflections which are thought-provoking at times.

Keep writing and thanks for your encouragement & support :)
    • What a funny user pic! Love red shoes even if they're cars. LOL

you added me back without me asking

You seemed harmless so I figured it was safe. ;)

I've enjoyed reading your LJ and admire how you've managed to have such a balanced life; knowing when to push forward and when to pull back. Peace and happiness to you!

    1. Are you in your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s? -- I'm 21 in 5 months time! Everyone says I look 16!And sometimes I wish I was 2......

    2. What do you do with your life? -- Good question...that I need to fidn the answers out myself haha. Basically I'm an undergrad at Singapore's NUS majoring in Eng Literature. A part of my life is also devoted to church and community work-I take care of a cell group. And I'm tryin' to wait on tables part time too.....but MOST of the time, I'm busy dreaming..Im a big dreamer...

    3. Are you a blogger too? -- yeah occasionally I do --> schokoladekusjes.blogspot.com

    4. How did you find this blog? -- I found your site from an acquaintance's livejournal friends' friends' list..haha pretty complicated. But I love blogs about young children, and you used to blog a lot abt Stephen! :)

    5. How often do you come to visit? -- Every other day perhaps..but usually when I've a million things to do but am busy procrascinating..yes you're part of my procrascination plan. lol.

    6. What topics interest you the most? -- Children! Pets, photography, sometimes politics, I confess the occasional celebrity news *hides* and just thoughts that well.....provoke more thoughts. how do you explain that? hmm.
    • Hello! Thanks for commenting. Glad to help you procrastinate. LOL

I did used to blog about Stephen more often but now that he's older, I'm less inclined to share him. Kind of like protecting his privacy, know what I mean?

Your blog has a beautiful picture of Liv Tyler and I love the title, "Pretty Butterfly." Lovely imagery.
  • Lurker here

I am a woman in my mid forties. My live journal postings are a rather sketchy attempt at keeping a jounal, it is not a particularly interesting read. It is mostly emotional dribble. And I only occasionally post.

I live in Washington State and spend a lot of time directing and acting in theater. I am currently directing a full production of "Macbeth." During the school year I coach Shakespeare to 5th graders,(this summers project is not a children's piece) and also run a small local post office.

I found your blog on a random search late one night and I was hooked. As a mother of three, two daughters 23 and 15 and a six year old boy. I always find you opinions and insights into motherhood interesting. You son is beautiful by the way, but it is obvious that you know that. I often follow your links on various subjects, and enjoy a peek into life that is subjectively very different from my own.

I drop in about once a day when going through my daily routine.

For as much time I spend with the words of others I am rather shy about writing myself. This in a strange way is a very difficult leap for me, but the term lurker is so sinister that I needed to come clean :)

    • Re: Lurker here

Thank you for replying! I feel so honored to be a part of your daily routine.

You don't sound like you could be a sinister lurker but I'm relieved to know that you've come out of the shadows. ;)

I always admire mothers of more than one child. With a six-year-old boy, I'm sure I could learn a thing or two from you. A life directing and acting in theater sounds so romantic. Do you know about my friend Krissy's Performing Arts Blogs? Maybe you'd find that interesting.

Thanks again for leaving a comment. :)
  • Some of these things you already know....I am female, 'in my thirties' soon to be 35! I can't quite believe that! I currently adjusting to doing very little, on a nice prolonged summer hiatus from the ongoing frantic activity of completing my training in science, medicine, general surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery (16 years in all, almost half my life already!) and starting a new job sometime in the fall.

I have my LJ journal only not a true 'blog' in the sense that it is not public (?) and restricted to friends only. I can't remember precisely how I caught onto yours, but I think it was through baggyk. Your entries about every day life, having a child, living somewhere different from me, particularly the ex-pat in Asia perspective for which I carry a sentimental fondness considering I could have moved there permanently, and the genetics stuff are all interesting. Since you are on my friends list I see it as often as you post!

  • Well, you already know most of these things about me, but here goes:

I'm 32. I am currently transitioning work-wise, but I'm trained as a marine scientist/fisheries ecologist. I've been doing data management and GIS on endangered species in the southwest US for the past 8 years. I'm also a mom to one little girl and that takes up most of my time outside of work. I enjoy reading and needlework and going for walks/hikes and swimming. Yep, I'm a blogger - [info]river2sea72. I think you found me through [info]balmofgilead's journal, if I remember correctly. I try to read your entries on my friends page daily. I'm most interested in the environment and women's rights, but also politics generally, both local and national.
    • Thanks for answering! We read a lot of the same online sources so after a bit of poking around in your LJ, I was pretty convinced that we'd get along. :) I especially like it when you find something totally outrageous and hilarious in LJ-land. :D
  • I am
    ...female
    ...in my late 20s,
...enjoying a stay home wife life in a different country.

yup, you will know I am a blogger too

I like your good observation on life, and diligence on updating the blog. Very interesting.
I click on my friends list daily and so I will read your blog entries.
Most things you blog about interest me :)
    • Thank you! Do you remember how you made your way here? I've wondered about that....

It's been fun getting to know you via LJ. The pictures you post are always so beautiful and bring some beauty to my day. :)
  • Female, nearly 41 (oy! how did that happen??), I'm a married, mother of 2, marketing coordinator American expat living in Sweden, also a writer, artist, singer :). I found you through [info]bezigebij, and read you daily on my flist. So far, I've enjoyed ALL your topics. You have a very wide and interesting range of interests.
    • You are so multi-talented! We haven't known each other long, but I know I've seen you pop up at many other blogs. I'd never seen a negative word about you and after reading some of your very thoughtful entries, I became a regular reader. :)
  • A seasoned lurker no more...

Hi there, I'm female and 23.
I live in Australia and I'm a psychology student, working towards becoming a psychologist. I love to write and I'm very sentimental, therefore LJ is a perfect place for me to record memories. I must admit, I am a repeat offender of lurking because there are so many interesting blogs out there!

How did I come across your blog? I can't remember exactly, but it must have been whilst reading a comment you left on someone else's page?
I read LJ weekly and I enjoy reading about your cute son, your life in Vietnam and about your honest opinions regarding issues which you feel strongly about.

Thanks for giving me a chance to introduce myself.
    • Re: A seasoned lurker no more...

Thanks for introducing yourself! It's nice to "meet" you. :) You must not be so much of an LJ addict if you read only weekly, I must read hourly! LOL

Your username is so clever, how did you come up with it? Kind of like a double entendre. hehe
  • All stuff you know, but...

    I am...
    in my early 30s.
a stay at home mom to one 3 year old and one baby due in January.
    a LJ blogger since 2001

You friended me after we "met" on the Yahoo babywearing list.
    I read every day.
I mostly like your parenting posts, for obvious reasons. :)
    • Wow! Since 2001? I don't even think I was aware of online journals/blogs back then. I was still posting in forums and discussion groups like Yahoo babywearing.

I added you as soon as I saw your name pop up when I first joined LJ and was poking around looking for new "friends". Even though I didn't remember specific posts you made at the Yahoo group, I had a positive feeling about you and I haven't been proven wrong. You are one of the most considerate, caring, and dedicated parents I know. We have so many things in common and share the same philosophy on parenting. How could we not get along?
  • Re: Tell Me About You

    Howdy!

    My name is Benson.

    1) I'm a male in my early 40's.

    2) I live in San Francisco, and I'm on staff as a computer programmer/analyst at the Sierra Club's National Headquarters. I also volunteer with hospice patients and participate with Landmark Education.

    3) I've actually just started blogging, ([info]bensonflores), however, I think I may already be addicted...

    4) I'm a fan of Rebecca MacKinnon, and I was looking for a way to add her blog to my friend's list. I found that her blog had already been syndicated on LiveJournal and that you were the only other person connected. Once I read a few pages of your blog, I immediately recognized you as a kindred spirit, and added you as a friend. Very nice to meet you, by the way!
  • (I know a few readers are teens, so don't be afraid to speak up too!) Yeap! I'm 19. Well, going on to 20 very soon.

I uh, met you through elyrie's livejournal. We were having an "erudite" discussion on trolls. lol. :P

There're a lot of things I admire about you actually. For starters, I like how much you read. I will be checking your booklist quite often for recommendations!

I also like how much you love your son. Haha, even though I think it's *normal* for all parents to love their children, there's something very noble in giving all of one's self in hopes of bettering another.

I also think you're very, very nice, and I am surprised that someone who attended an ivy league school is so nice and friendly.

I'm really glad you're on my friends' list! :)
    • Thank you for the lovely comment! I've enjoyed reading your entries. I don't think I was as contemplative and smart as you when I was your age! You're going to do great in college this fall.
  • My turn... :)

    - 34 and mom to two great kids.
    - Kids, work, kids, work, kids, work...
    - I'm a blogger though that term doesn't quite appeal to me after all that hype.
    - I chanced upon your blog through one of the LJ mummies. Can't remember who it was now.
    - I visit a couple of times a day. You always have new stuff.
    - I read anything so write away.
    • Thanks, Tracey! You've been a wonderful LJ friend from the start. Stephen still loves the balls you sent him long ago. It is just one of many examples of what a caring person you are and your two precious children are lucky to have you.

Good morning, Lei. :) (Well, it's morning over here, anyway....)

I am 27 years old. With my life, I (amongst other things) indulge my curiosity, learn random stuff about random things, try different recipes for chocolate chip cookies, laugh, engage in witty banter, and meet friendly, interesting people who are passionate about something. I, too, am a blogger. I visit your blog on a daily basis. I am interested in what other interests other people; enthusiasm is infectious.

There you go. I've humored you; now you can humor me. :)

    - Maria over at intueri.org, who is debating if she should go to IKEA today to get a kitchen table
    • So did you get a kitchen table? I got one from IKEA when I first moved to Baltimore and used it for a desk. :D

I've been really privileged to know you, Maria. Your exceptional writing has inspired me in so many ways. You're exactly the kind of person I would love to hang out with. Hopefully, someday we'll be able to do that!
